Roulette is the most popular UK casino game and offers players a great mix of visual entertainment and big winning opportunities. A small bet can yield a big result if the luck is on the player’s side which is what makes this game so exciting.

Roulette is played on a layout with players able to bet on a wide variety of different options with varying odds. A small ball is spun around a wheel and whichever slot the ball lands in determines the winning number for that spin. The wheel contains 37 differently numbered slots in alternating black and red colours. The Zero is coloured green. This is the French wheel, which is normally used in online casinos and in Europe. This version of roulette has a house edge of 2.7%. There is also a double zero wheel which is used in true American roulette and is more predominant in the United States. The double zero wheel is often an option in online casinos, however, this version of the game has a higher house edge at 5.26%, so players looking for the best winning chances are better to stick with the single zero version.

Betting OptionsThere are lots of different bets bgo players can make which give different odds. The bets range from straight up, which is a single number and pays 35-1, down to the even chance bets on the outside of the layout. Here are the betting options on roulette:

Straight up / On the Number: 35-1
The straight up bet covers one number. This bet will pay a winner the largest sum if the number comes in.
Split: 17-1
This bet covers two numbers and is placed on the dividing them between them.
Street: 11-1
This bet covers three numbers running across the layout (for example, 10, 11 and 12). The bet is placed on the line separating the inside from the outside bets at the side of the row of numbers.
Corner: 8-1
This bet covers four numbers in a square shape. It is placed in the corner in between the four chosen numbers on the layout (for example 10, 11, 13 and 14).
Six line: 5-1
This bet covers 6 numbers and works in the same way as two street bets side by side. The bet is placed in between the two streets you want to cover.
If Zero comes in all bets lose unless a player has bet on Zero. All even chance bets can lose or sometimes players get to keep half their stake if the casino uses the partage rule.
There are various more advanced bets on roulette. These include neighbour bets, whereby a player can bet on a number and the 4 numbers on either side on the wheel. This is a five piece bet which means that if a player wants to place £5 on each of the five numbers he would need to pay £25 to place the neighbour bet.
Other advanced bets are section bets, whereby players can bet on a certain segment of the wheel. The segments usually offered are Tiers, Voisins du Zero and Orphelins. These bets are 6 piece, 9 piece, and 5 piece bets respectively.
Roulette is a great choice for players new to the casino as it gives a taste of real table game action without any decisions to make which could alter the outcome of the game. Simply choose a number and place your bet, or learn some more advanced bets for extra variety.
Get ready for the biggest thrill of your life once you get rolling with the exciting game of roulette. Before playing in a game it is important to understand some things about roulette odds. There are several versions of roulette that have slightly different rules involved. This makes the game accessible and entertaining for every type of player out there. Most importantly, there are two different types of roulette wheels, one called the American roulette and one is European roulette wheel.
Free Online Roulette Game - American Roulette

While there are two major variations of roulette, there are more similarities than not. To play in a game of roulette, first locate the roulette table layout. This green table is situated next to the roulette wheel and has loads of spots for you to take your best bet. Of all the choices, there are two categories of bets called the "inside bets" or "outside bets". The inside bets are the higher payout because the odds are high. Inside bets include a bet on a single lucky number, splits, or small combinations of numbers on the table layout. Place an outside bet for a lower payout but better odds. Outside bets include a bet on red or black, even or odd, a certain dozen of numbers, or a column.
The roulette table is managed by a croupier and a dealer. The roulette wheel is always spinning and anyone in the action needs to place their uniquely colored chip on the table. Once the dealer calls an end to the bets, you better have your stake on the table. If you are a winner, then you are paid out according to the inside or outside payout.
With the different varieties of roulette, let's talk about how to play American roulette since it is the simpler version to play. The American roulette wheel has numbers 1-36 and includes a 0 and a 00 slot. It is played in North America, as its name suggests. When the ball drops into its final slot, let's hope that it doesn't land in the 0 or 00. The house has two chances to take the win and American roulette puts the house edge at 5.26%.
Free Online Roulette Game - European Roulette

European roulette only has the one zero slot on the wheel cutting the house edge in half to 2.7%. European roulette is played in most European countries, of course. There are a couple of rules that may be instituted in the game that are great news to improve your odds against the house. In European roulette, you may find the "en prison" or "la partage rules". If the ball lands in the zero slot in the roulette spin, "la partage" rules allow the player to receive half of their bet back. If you are playing at a table using the "en prison" rule, that means the bet will be "imprisoned" when the ball lands on the zero for one more spin. If your bet hits on the next spin, then your bet is released from prison with no winnings.
There are endless ways for you to play and enjoy roulette. With choices from European and American roulette and now the online versions offer unrivaled convenience. If you are feeling hesitant, the free online roulette rooms are a great way to experience the rules and flow of play. After hundreds of years, roulette has no evidence of shrinking popularity. Give it a whirl and you can easily see why!
